Ike began his legal career in the Tax Section of Hughes & Luce, but soon moved to the Banking and Real Estate Section where he acquired his interest in land-use law. In the 1980s, Ike worked on, among other projects, Fort Worth Alliance Airport and the Alliance Corridor, the Circle T Ranch, the acquisition, zoning, and development of a 2500-acre corporate campus and mixed-use project in Plano, Texas, and the development of a major north-Texas highway project now called the “President George Bush Turnpike.” In the 1990s, Ike’s practice expanded to include economic development incentives (i.e., “public-private partnerships”), including, public improvement districts, tax increment finance reinvestment zones, venue projects (the American Airlines Center in Dallas), TCEQ-sponsored voluntary clean-up programs, tax abatements, “4A” and “4B” economic development corporations, and “Chapter 380” and “Chapter 381” economic development grants. In the last 10 years, Ike’s practice has further expanded to include development through the use of “conservation and reclamation districts” such as Municipal Utility Districts. Between 2003 and 2007, Ike served as head of the firm’s Real Estate Section and Land Use Practice Group.
